Phoenix — The Arizona Board of Regents has appointed John Arnold as its next executive director.

The board held a special meeting Thursday before approving Arnold for the job.

He has served as the board's interim managing director since May.

Arnold joined the board in March of 2015 as vice president of business management and financial affairs.

He developed financial policies and procedures for the university enterprise, addressed capital development and state budget requests, and coordinated system-wide analysis of complex financial issues.

Arnold served as former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer's budget director when she was in office.
