Isabelle McKenna, pictured here with her daughter Maureen, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1990. In the disease’s final stages, Isabelle lost everything but the ability to sense human touch and the steadfast devotion of her family. And with each passing year, her family lost more and more of the woman they loved. THE FORGETTING brings viewers close to the intense, real-world experience of patients and families affected by Alzheimer’s.
Being able to see harmful plaque deposits inside the living brains of Alzheimer’s patients has eluded the grasp of scientists for more than a century. However, a chemical compound, created by a team at the University of Pittsburgh’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, is a delicate balance of ingredients that can enter the brain, bond to the plaque deposits and allow scientists to finally see the invisible enemy.
