Visitors pump hundreds of millions of dollars into the state's economy every year, but the pandemic led to a steep decline. In 2019, travel industry experts estimated a financial impact of about $25.6 billion compared to $15 billion in 2020.
But efforts are underway to increase the number of national and international visitors to Arizona, even though uncertainty about travel restrictions and the coronavirus could prevent a full recovery well into 2023 or beyond, according to professionals. Tony Paniagua spoke to travel experts and the director of a new museum in downtown Tucson that hopes to have an impact on the local economy.
