Anna and her foal Tikiti Maji were two of the endangered Grevy's zebras on display at the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson. Tikiti died on February 6, 2024, after running into a fence surrounding the enclosure and suffering a neck injury.

An endangered Grevy's Zebra foal died Tuesday at Tucson's Reid Park Zoo. The Zoo says the foal's mother was startled by a gust of wind and ran across her enclosure. The foal followed, and ran into a wooden fence, causing a neck injury that was instantly fatal.
The foal was born on Christmas day and named "Tikiti Maji" in a contest sponsored by the zoo.
Grevy's zebras are rare, with only 2,000 living in the wild, and like all zebras, they startle easily. Before Tikiti was born, the zoo modified its enclosure to make it safer.
Keepers are giving the foal's mother, Anna, extra attention as she deals with the loss of her foal.
The zoo says it will re-evaluate the habitat and consult with experts.
