Tucson Mayor Regina Romero hosted White House Senior Advisor Tom Perez Tuesday on a tour of projects around the city that benefited from federal funding.
The tour took place on an electric SunTran bus that was paid for by federal dollars. The stops included the 22nd Street bridge which is being refurbished, a PFAS remediation site, and a new neighborhood park on the southside which borders I-19. At that stop, Perez praised Romero for getting to the front of the line for federal funding.
"We continue to prove in every city, state, and tribal nation in America that when we partner like you are doing here when we invest jointly like we are doing here, the sky is the limit," Perez said.
Federal dollars for the projects largely came from spending bills, like the Inflation Reduction Act and the American Rescue Plan.
Last month, Romero was at the White House meeting with President Biden and administration officials.
