The First Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden at the Fox Tucson Theatre, in Tucson, Ariz. on. Saturday, March 2. Biden, stopped in Arizona to launch the Women for Biden-Harris initiative, a program intended to mobilize women to re-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Dr. Jill Biden kicked off Women’s History Month in Tucson, with a visit to the 20th anniversary event of Arizona List, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Democratic women running for office.
During the event, the First Lady and Democratic elected officials commended the organization for its work in aiding women in their pursuit of political seats.
The First Lady also emphasized the critical need for women’s access to reproductive healthcare.
Biden noted that too often, women are still confronted with difficult decisions between different aspects of their lives.
“Extremist Republicans led by Donald Trump are passing laws that prevent women from getting the healthcare they need, including IVF,” Biden said.
During the First Lady’s speech, she was interrupted by four Pro-Palestine protestors but continued speaking about Arizona's role in the upcoming election.
Biden also announced the launch of the Women for Biden-Harris campaign–a national organizing initiative designed to mobilize women for the re-election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
The grassroots coalition is made up of women from all 50 states.
Maya Harris, executive director of the ACLU of Northern California and sister to Kamala Harris, was also a guest speaker.
Harris underscored the importance of reproductive healthcare and expressed concern about legislative efforts undermining women’s rights.
“Even in states where the people have voted overwhelmingly for freedom, by amending their state constitutions to protect a women’s right to choose the underwhelming minority is still working overtime in legislatures to undermine what the people rose up to support,” Harris said.
Dr. Biden’s next destination on her tour is Las Vegas.
