The Sierra Vista City Council has voted to take over the Pueblo del Sol Golf Course and Country Club in the fall.

City Manager Chuck Potucek said at Monday’s special council meeting that the Paradigm Golf Group is being contracted for professional management of the course.

“This particular management company is willing to absorb the operational losses that we know will occur and they believe that they can turn the operation around in about four years time,” he said.

The current owner, Castle and Cooke, is over $600,000 in debt to the city from a sewer project the real estate company started in 1999 and never paid off.

The agreement terms dictate Sierra Vista gains full ownership of the course in exchange for forgiveness of that debt, despite the property being valued at $1.6 million.

City officials say the city will begin its own operation of the course on September 6.
