The Arizona Board of Regents announced early Thursday morning that it will interview Dr. Suresh Garimella for the position of the 23rd president of the University of Arizona in a closed session on Friday.
Dr. Garimella is currently the President of the University of Vermont. According to a news release from ABOR, he has "led with a bold vision and thoughtful financial discipline, more than doubled the university’s research enterprise, and strengthened state and community relationships."
Before taking over the presidency of UVM he was the executive vice president of research and partnerships and a distinguished professor at Purdue University. His PhD is in mechanical engineering.
The interview will take place Friday morning between 7:00-9:00 am in an executive session which means the public cannot see the interview.
ABOR will then hold a public hearing which will be streamed on its website and YouTube.
The announcement did not indicate the board would be interviewing other candidates.
The Arizona Board of Regents holds the broadcast licenses for AZPM.
