John Doe of X

Hear about the origin of a punk rock legend, and re-imaging X's music for the next phase of a four-decade career.

x graffitti spotlight Singer Exene Cervanka, guitarist Billy Zoom, bassist & singer John Doe and drummer DJ Bonebrake - the founding members of X.

The quartet X was already regarded as one of the most important bands in the West Coast punk movement when it released it's debut album Los Angeles in 1980.

The fast and loud songs showed folk and country roots that were unusual for the time, but many felt it was the chemistry between singer / songwriters Exene Cervenka and John Doe that made X shine.

Now, after marriage, divorce, a dozen albums and almost four decades of collaboration, John Doe still considers Exene to be his soul mate.

Mark McLemore talks with John Doe about the latest phase of X's career. Original X members John Doe, Exene Cervanka, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake take the stage at The Rialto Theatre on Dec. 5. Roots-rock legends The Blasters will open the show.
