Listen:
Arizona's unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent in January, the Arizona Department of Administration reported Thursday.
The last time the rate was that low was May 2008.
The unemployment rate dropped 0.3 of a percentage point from December to January, and has dropped a full percentage point year-to-year.
The rate of joblessness was down, and so was the number of jobs available in Arizona.
The state shed 48,600 jobs in January, a month when Arizona usually loses jobs as holiday-related employment comes to an end.
The post-recession average for January is 51,300 jobs lost.
