The number of credit card skimmers found in Arizona over the last two months was nearly triple the total found all of last year.

Officials with the state weights and measures division say 30 skimmers have been found embedded in the card slots on gasoline pumps since Labor Day. That brings the number found this year to 78. A total of 11 were found in all of 2015

The skimmers record card numbers, allowing illegal access to people’s credit and debit card information.

State officials say they are organizing the Department of Public Safety, police departments and other agencies to fight the problem. They are moving toward what they call an intensive inspection of gasoline pumps.
