The Tucson Unified School District has been stalked by leadership shake-ups, dropping enrollment and a statewide teacher shortage that some have characterized as a crisis.
Those are some of the challenges facing TUSD Interim Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo, who conducted a tour of the district’s Maxwell K-8 School with Arizona Public Media.
Trujillo is one of four finalists being considered to assume leadership of district permanently. Each candidate will attend a public forum next week before deliberations on a finalist take place Aug. 22.
Metro Week also heads to 4th Avenue, where rainbow-colored crosswalks were unveiled this week, to ask whether 4th Avenue Tucson’s most LGBTQ-friendly street.
Climate change is leading to a rapid decline in Arizona’s main source of water: the Colorado River. New research from University of Arizona climate scientist Jonathan Overpeck and Colorado State University’s Brad Udall predicts a significant drop in the river’s flow over this century.
Host Vanessa Barchfield sits down with Overpeck to talk about how that could change life as we know it in this state and across the American Southwest.
This episode of Metro Week marks the first under new host Vanessa Barchfield. She takes over for Andrea Kelly, who has been appointed assistant news director.
