Two Pima County Board of Supervisors seats long held by Republicans saw competition for that party's nomination on Tuesday.
District 1 Republicans
In District 1, on the north side of the metro area, incumbent Ally Miller defeated challenger John Winchester in her bid for a second term.
Miller took 13,818 votes and Winchester 10,326, according to initial results.
On her website, Miller states the election is a chance to consider a new direction for the county by electing pro-business politicians to all five supervisors’ seats up for election.
Miller will be on the ballot with Democrat Brian Bickel in November.
District 4 Republicans
Steve Christy, a former car dealer who has experience on transportation and economic development boards in the Tucson area, handily beat Marla Closen and John Backer in the southeast district.
Christy had 12,974 votes, Closen 8,565 and Backer 1,991 as of Wednesday morning.
Christy said he does not compare with the Republican supervisors.
“When I served on the state transportation board I was my own man. I had no other person that I copied or emulated – same with the Regional Transportation Authority when I served on that," Christy said. "I had to provide my own style of leadership.”
Christy will be on the ballot against Green Party candidate Josh Reilly in November.
